So it has only been slightly under a year since I made the conscious decision to change my life for the better by hitting the gym and working on creating a better diet for my life. I have learned so much about myself and about what it takes to motivate me to get up in the morning and what it takes to stick to the grind. Along the way I have also learned several things about the clothes we wear to workout in. Here are just a few of the many things I have learned.

  1. A lot of the high-priced Under Armour, Lululemon, and other “dry fit” materials look great until you really start to sweat. Heck they still look good when you start to sweat, but they typically cling to your body and it makes for a very uncomfortable workout. In my opinion, Poly-Cotton and Tri-Blend shirts seem to do much better and maintain a crisp look while you work out.
  2. Looking good at the gym is important, but not for the reasons you think. Sure you want to look good for all of those people at the gym, but most importantly, you want to look good for YOU. I have found that most gyms have tons of mirrors and you will spend a lot of time looking at yourself as you are straining to complete the next set. I have found that when I am well dressed in quality workout gear, I tend to have a better opinion of myself and I tend to push myself a little harder. Given how difficult working out is, every little thing that can motivate you is a plus.
  3. Next Level and Bella+Canvas make high quality shirt that are “long enough”, by that I mean you can workout, lift, and stretch without your belly hanging out. Trust me, until you have a six-pack, which so few of us have, you do not want your belly hanging out as you lift your arms above your head doing those TRX stretches. Both Bella+Canvas and Next Level seem to have figured out just the right length for their t-shirts.

In summary, when you hit the gym, you want to feel good about yourself and not be fighting with apparel that just doesn’t adapt to your workout program. Find the gear that is right for you and kill it in the gym.
